Gerard Singh
Gerard Singh is a regionally renowned singer, songwriter and musician with a long run of performances spanning three decades. He first started performing in Johor Bahru in 1988, moving on to Singapore in 1989 for a 6 month stint, before returning to Johor Bahru. Soon after, he was awarded 1st prize in the solo category of Carlsberg’s acclaimed “Top of the Pubs” competition for a jaw-dropping solo performance.
In 1995, he moved back to the Klang Valley, where he has been performing since. 1996 saw Gerard as an active member of the much-admired show band “Stainless Steel” that held regular shows at fashionable outlets such as; Hard Rock Café, Blues Café and Uncle Chilli’s. After two years, he decided to move in directions other than the band. It was then that an Australian wine company, “Yalumba” honoured him and four other musicians with an award for remarkable contributions to the local music scene.
Gerard has also been extensively involved in jingle production nationwide, having contributed to projects for Carlsberg, Digi, Winfield, S. E. A. Insurance, WowFM, Ayam Brand Tuna Spread, Kentucky Fried Chicken, My Kad, Benson & Hedges, Pepsi Blue, Penchala Link and Anglia Shandy to name a few. Some of the recording studios he was involved in jingle productions include Betarecs, Add Audio, Syncrosound, Nada Studios, Incognito, Wasp, 2 AM and Scat Productions. A lot of the jingles he has done can be heard on air (Radio & TV).
Gerard’s debut English album, “A SLICE OF THE PIE” which was launched in 2004 garnered a lot of attention from the local media and was also nominated for two awards in the 2005 annual A.I.M. awards (Anugerah Industri Musik). Gerard along with Raymond Chia also re-recorded two songs from A SLICE OF THE PIE as the duo BIG GAME for a local compilation album called “Journey Man” which also featured other local musicians and their original compositions. In 2009, Gerard wrote, produced, recorded, mixed and sang 'SEHATI SEJIWA', which was selected as one of 10 songs that made it to the finals of the 1 MALAYSIA song competition. That same year BIG GAME also went on to complete producing and recording its debut album of 10 original songs which were all written, arranged & mixed by Gerard. The album was launched successfully sometime in November 2009.
In 2014 Gerard’s single CRAZY hit number 40 on the American Billboard Indicator chart, making him the 1st Malaysian artist to do so. In 2018 his original Malay song WARIS was featured as the theme song in the local tele-movie LUARBIASA. WARIS was previously recorded and released as part of an EP by HYDRA, a popular Malaysian band. He subsequently re-recorded and released WARIS along with two other songs, ISOLATION FOR PRESERVATION and PERMATAKU after the lockdown began in March 2019. All his original material is available on Spotify, iTunes, Deezer and most other major streaming platforms. He is currently working on his next solo album.
